Opinion: Aberdeen’s Lewis Ferguson has attributes well suited to Celtic’s ‘Angeball’ philosophy

As the January transfer window approaches, Celtic have been linked with numerous targets from all over the world. With new CEO Michael Nicholson, and manager Ange Postecoglou working away at prospective deals, there is a domestic talent who has once again shown why he should be a Celtic target.

Aberdeen midfielder, Lewis Ferguson has been widely rumoured to be looking for a move away from the Dons for some time and with Celtic short on numbers in that area of the pitch, the deal really should be a no-brainer. Ferguson is reliable, young, and flexible position-wise with the potential for resale value.

A lot has been made about his family connections but this has been dismissed by several pundits who have said it would give the player something to think about. With the latest Ibrox club seemingly unable to find more reserves from the magic money tree without selling first, we risk losing another domestic talent to England who may end up like John McGinn in value and worth. It seems like a small price to pay initially, whatever Dave Cormack may be looking for.

With his move to Watford not coming to fruition, it is clear the player is ready to move and that he was frustrated Aberdeen rejected this opportunity for Ferguson to further his development at a bigger club. Perhaps Celtic could be the club to tempt both the player and his club we are the right move for him under Ange Postecoglou? Maybe even sweeten the deal with one of our younger, fringe players?

Ferguson has the ability to become a top footballer, of that there is not the slightest doubt. With the correct coaching and footballing environment he could develop into a player that Callum McGregor would look to as being his understudy. We won’t know until we ask the question and it would be a liberty if we let him move to the Championship.

He reminded us all of what he was capable of this weekend, with a superb strike from outside the box agaisnt Dundee, as they overcame a phenomenal Leigh Griffiths freekick to win all three points at Pittodrie.

Watch why Celtic should add Lewis Ferguson to their ranks this January…

WE’VE GOT SOMETHING TWICE AS GOOD…

Thanks to everyone who ordered Harry Hood – Twice as Good for Christmas presents. If you got an Ange jumper instead then why not order this brilliant book by Matt Corr, or indeed David Potter’s biography of another Celtic legend Alec McNair – born on this day incidentally – from Celtic Star Books or from the official Celtic stores?

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
