Ange Postecoglou’s relentless Celtic team are going into the final few matches of the season with a number of records in sight.

If the Hoops overcome Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Scottish Cup Final, then they will become the first club in the world to record eight trebles. Seven of those would of course be purely domestic, while the quintuple of 1966/67 also included the European Cup.

Celtic can also break the record for goals scored in a league season, if they find the target 14 times in the next five league matches. This would surpass the record held by the club already, when Willie Maley’s Celtic team scored 116 league goals in the 1915/16 season. The Lisbon Lions ran that one close with 111 goals and Brendan Rodgers’ men scored 106 times in the Invincible season.

A slight wobbled against Motherwell two weeks ago put the world records points total out of reach. We can now only get one short of Red Star Belgrade’s 108 points. However, buoyed by the Cup Semi Final victory and with Aaron Mooy returning to form, Jota and Hatate back among the starters, along with Abada returning to full training – Celtic are getting key players back at the right time. Although, Carter-Vickers will miss the rest of the season through injury.

Celtic look set to hit top stride now and will be well placed to attempt to shatter these records. What a legacy it would give Ange Postecoglou and this current crop of players.
