The Rainbow armband should be proudly worn. If it offends you, you are the problem, argues Just an Ordinary Bhoy…

This weekend sees the highlighting of support for the LGBT community in football and the skippers of each top flight side will wear a rainbow armband in support of the cause. Callum McGregor will proudly wear the armband as will the other skippers of the other eleven clubs in the top fight, and rightly so.

And the SWPL1 sides will do the same with Kelly Clark wearing the rainbow armband over at Airdrie tomorrow afternoon for the visit of Spartans.

Discrimination has no place in sport or society as a whole and it’s important our biggest football clubs highlight just that. For some though it’s seen as something of an issue, and they can’t get their disturbed minds around such a showing of support.

We’ve seen some players refuse to wear the armband, (thankfully not in this country) and let’s not have this religious belief crap as the same players have no problem promoting gambling which their religion also denounces.

But more disappointingly I’ve seen some supporters criticise the support of the LGBT community. Yes that even includes some of our own supporters. For example I seen a few get upset over the adidas one love range the club recently launched.

Why? Apart from it being attractive sports wear it raises support of a community that are sadly persecuted in life, and we as a club are against such prejudice. Folk who love someone of the same sex are human beings, they are someone’s daughter, son, brother, cousin, auntie or uncle, mum or dad. They are as equally as important as anyone else in society.

It’s prejudice like this that stops sports personalities showing their true sexuality. They should feel comfortable to be themselves and not feel persecuted. It’s disgusting that they can’t. If you have a problem with an armband or an issue with someone’s sexuality then you I’m afraid are the problem. Wear that armband with pride this weekend Bhoys and Ghirls.
