Celtic back in for Owen Beck. Is he the right choice? Mixed opinions on The Celtic Star…

Celtic have reportedly shown an interest in Liverpool defender Owen Beck once again. The left back spent last season on loan at Dundee and was named in the SPFL team of the year such was his good form. The Celtic Star Editor actually flagged up Owen Beck as a potential Celtic signing ahead of Dundee’s visit to Celtic Park last year and it looks like he was on the money with that one.

Celtic were interested in a loan deal for the Welsh under 21 international back in January, but a rare appearance for Liverpool shelved those plans because of the rule denying a player from turning out for three clubs in the one campaign.

Liverpool are willing to let the Welshman leave once more, but this time on a permanent deal, but that could scupper any potential move as it’s believed that Celtic would like any move to be a loan one, most probably with an option to buy.

There’s no doubting Beck is a good player with great potential, we witnessed that first hand last season. Although not in the 7-1 trouncing of the Dens Park side back in February! A game in which Beck was giving a torrid time by Yang. But is he the man to push Greg Taylor for a first team spot? Not many will think so, and would  like to see a higher calibre of player brought in. Others think differently, indeed the aforementioned article from our Editor last August was full of praise for Beck and he reckons that while at Dundee he was the best left-back in the league last season.

Given the chance to wok with and be developed by Brendan Rodgers, the sky’s the limit for the young talent.
