Owen Beck to Celtic works if loan deal has an option to buy

Owen Beck would be a good addition, to sign now or even if it’s a loan deal with option to buy…

Celtic were yesterday heavily linked with a move for Liverpool left back Owen Beck, and he’s a player that The Celtic Star flagged him up as a potential Celtic signing in this transfer window at the beginning of September!

Before Dundee played at Celtic Park we told you to watch out for their left back and in that game and the subsequent match at Dens Park on Boxing Day, Beck certainly looked the part.

The Welshman had a loan stint at Dundee before the break before he was recalled by Jurgen Klopp due to an injury crisis.Liverpool’s dilemma in that department has somewhat soothed with the pending return of Andy Roberson and back up Konstantinos Tsimikas.

Beck is a highly regarded prospect and we seen him up at close quarters when he was at Dundee. He didn’t look out of place, and you could tell he’s a decent player. The talk is of a loan deal for the left back, that’s fine, but only if there is an option to buy inserted in any proposed deal.

There is no point in developing players for other clubs, that’s not our prerogative. We have a great young prospect at the club in Mitchel Frame, and I would rather our time was invested in his development than some other club’s player. Owen Beck would be a great addition, but only if we have a chance of making it permanent in the summer.

  1. We need to find out what we’re missing in training our youth players relative to clubs elsewhere we always seem to buy from, like your Liverpools & Benfica’s; clearly they’re doing something different that works!
