Newcastle United’s Ki Sung-Yueng is a target for Celtic, according to The Chronicle. However, it is suggested that the Scottish Champions cannot afford the South Korean.
Ki has fallen down the pecking order of Steve Bruce’s Newcastle since arriving on a free transfer from Swansea. Now, he is expected to leave the Toon this month with Bruce confirming it that there would be changes at St James’ Park during the transfer window.
“Ki is another one – I’m sure there’ll be two or three.
“If you’re not paying regularly when you get to a certain age, you’re entitled to knock down the door.
“I know what I was like. I wouldn’t accept that I couldn’t play on a Saturday.”
Ki was one of Neil Lennon’s central midfielders during his first tenure and remained in Glasgow for 3 seasons before a move to Swansea.
However, it is unlikely that Celtic would opt for Ki especially when they have Olivier Ntcham, Callum McGregor and Scott Brown vying for the holding midfielder role as well as Tom Rogic and Ryan Christie competing for the attacking position.
Despite Ki being a quality player it wouldn’t be intelligent to attempt to force through a deal for the South Korean.
