Paulo Bernardo – Brendan’s brilliant bargain buy from Benfica

Celtic signed Portugal’s Under 21 captain and a player who immediately became a full Belgium internationalist. Brendan is certainly getting Celtic’s act together as we get set to make an impression in the Champions League…

Paulo Bernardo scored for the Portuguese under 21s in a 2-0 win over Croatia last night as he continues his impressive form.

Paulo is also the captain of Portugal under 21 side so it shows how highly he is regarded in his homeland. We have got ourselves a very good player, and the £3.5 million fee we sanctioned for his services looks to be an outstanding bargain already.

Another man who also made his mark on the international stage was our new Bhoy Arne Engels who made his full international debut for Belgium against Israel after being invited to join up with his national side for Euro 2024 to get integrated into the set-up.

We now have the Portuguese under 21 captain and a full Belgium internationalist on our books and that is proof of the standards that Brendan Rodgers demands for his Celtic side.

The Celtic manager has spoken often about his need for ‘quality’ in the team, and he looks to have finally got his wish. Although there is still work to be done to bring in more players of a similar standard, it’s a step in the right direction as we can’t deny that we are in a very good place at the moment.
