Celtic captain Callum McGregor was substituted in the first half against RB Leipzig on Wednesday night, after suffering a painful knee injury. Speaking after the match, Ange Postecoglou said that the injury “didn’t look good” and fans were thus anxious to find out the extent of the ailment. The skipper was already set to miss tomorrow’s class with St Johnstone due to suspension anyway, but his importance to the team is such that many hoped he would be back sooner than feared.

Those hopes were dashed this morning, when McGregor was spotted wearing a knee brace as he boarded a flight to London, to see a medical specialist.

Updating fans on the injury, Postecoglou told the media that it was “not likely to be short term” at today’s press conference. We will have to wait until the relevant scans and tests have been completed before getting a full prognosis.
