Prominent Celtic supporters groups The Bhoys and The Green Brigade held a protest yesterday over the potential appointment of ACC Bernard Higgins into a chief Security position at Celtic Park. The groups, backed by Celtic Shared and The Celtic Trust, communicated their position with social media posts as well as leaflets outside the stadium.

Shortly before the players walked out and both groups held aloft banners criticising Higgins, which drew one of the loudest roars of the afternoon.

The moment that the 30-minute silent protest ended was loud and the intended outcome had been reached. Celtic Park was eerily quiet without the constant support from the two groups.

Higgins was Assistant Chief Constable and repeatedly came under fire during his tenure in the role due to the treatment of football fans. The legislation was flawed and its subsequent repeal highlighted the enormous amount of injustices that were transpiring. Celtic fans across social media have united against the potential appointment. It will be interesting to see how this pans out over the next few weeks.

Higgins is currently deployed dealing with COP26 so it would be expected that any decision to appoint the ACC will be delayed until the end of November, at least.
