Former Celtic favourite Nir Bitton suffered a sickening bang to the head, which required stitches, before playing on. The 31-year-old started in the 1-1 win against Maccabi Bnei Reineh but suffered a grim head injury after a collision.

The player made 270 appearances for Celtic with 38 coming this season. His performances from his natural holding position were praised as many questioned why he was ever moved to defence in the first place.

Bitton came off the bench as Celtic beat Motherwell on the final day of the 2021/22 season to collect his 18th winners medal since joining the club back in 2013. He departed alongside another stalwart, Tom Rogic.
