Today’s photo of the day is another Scottish Cup rewind, this time to January 1981 and the third round of the competition. It was then that Celtic travelled to Berwick Rangers on 24th of the month.

Here, fans can be seen getting herded into the ground by the police.

Cumbria Police were the force responsible for the heavy handed approach of escorting fans from buses and trains into the stadium on the Hoops’ first ever visit to Shielfield Park.

The hosts gave a good account of themselves but couldn’t beat one of Scotland’s big two, as they did against Rangers in 1967. Charlie Nicholas and Tommy Burns made sure of that with a goal each to ensure Celtic left with a 2-0 victory and their name in the hat for the fourth round draw.
