Today’s photo of the day goes back to the late 1930s and shows a brilliant scene during Celtic Park training.

Football was very different back then. The team was selected on a Thursday evening, which was the only day that Willie Maley would be seen at the club outside of matches. Tactics were seldom part of a game plan and the captain’s role was simply to toss the coin. Training consisted of running laps around the Celtic Park track and performing strength work with a medicine ball.

In our feature today, you can see George Paterson hurdling Jimmy Delaney during training at Celtic Park. Chic Geatons and Jimmy McGrory offer support!

It’s a quite remarkable image, showing the difference in clothing and professional training standards. However, there are similarities with today’s haircuts, and I’m sure I won’t be alone in thinking that Paterson looks somewhat similar to Tom Hardy!
