Today’s photo of the day is somewhat sad as it shows the Celtic squad in Ukraine ahead of their match against Dynamo Kiev in 1986.

The city was then a treacherous place, with supporters being urged not to travel as the Chernobyl nuclear disaster had occurred just 60 miles away during the previous spring. However, few would have predicted that it would be under siege less than 40 years later.

On the park, the Bhoys lost 3-1 and exited the European Cup in disappointing style. They were rocked by the 100,000 attendance, just 150 of whom were away supporters; although Mark McGhee equalised in the 49th minute before two goals in the closing stages finished the tie.
