Chic Geatons was a fantastic defender, who played for Celtic for 14 years between 1927-1941. Forced to retire due to work related injuries suffered during wartime, he finished his career with 11 trophies to his name: two Scottish Leagues, three Scottish Cups, two Glasgow Cups, three Glasgow Charity Cups and the Empire Exhibition Trophy.

Today’s photo of the day shows the devastating scene when Chic was given the goalkeeper’s jersey at Ibrox after John Thomson had been stretchered off.

Though rendered insignificant in the circumstances, Geatons kept a clean sheet as the game was drawn 0-0. This was no mean feat when one considers that Thomson had been fatally wounded early in the second half, so there was considerable time left to play.
