Today’s photo of the day shows Jimmy ‘Jinky’ Johnstone and his Celtic teammates celebrating at Ibrox in the late 1960s. It serves as a reminder of some fantastic moments, bringing back special memories in a week when one of our Lisbon Lions, Charlie Gallagher, was tragically taken from us.
It appears that the image dates back to May 1967, when Celtic drew 2-2 at Ibrox and thus won the league title. Jinky scored both goals that day, one of which was the greatest of his career; a left footed thunderbolt which struck the crossbar on its way into the net from 30 yards.
The photograph is thought to have been taken at full time on that magical afternoon.
