The return of the photo of the day feature brings you an image of John McPhail with the Scottish Cup. McPhail scored the winning goal against Motherwell that day with a lob over the goalkeeper in the 12th minute.
132,000 people packed into Hampden Park that afternoon and they witnessed Celtic winning their first trophy since 1938 and their 16th Scottish Cup triumph.
One of the famous faces in our photo of the day feature is Sean Fallon. Speaking about the 1951 Scottish Cup Final, he said: “As I walked off at Hampden Park I felt I had got everything out of like I had ever wanted. I had become a member of the famous Celtic FC and holder of a Scottish Cup badge all in one year.”
The Celtic line up that day was littered with great names: Hunter; Fallon, Rollo; Evans, Boden, Baillie; J Weir, Collins, McPhail, Peacock, Tully.
Hunter made a miracle save in the second half. Sean Fallon is an undisputed Celtic legend, as is Evans, Collins, McPhail, Peacock and Tully. Alex Rollo starred in the Coronation Cup triumph in 1953 and Joe Bailie was part of the 1953/54 league winning side. Meanwhile, Alec Boden made his mark on Celtic history as a scout, in 1967, when he spotted Kenny Dalglish; whilst Jock Weir scored a hat-trick on the final day of the 1947/48 season at Dundee to prevent Celtic from being relegated.
