Today’s photo of the day feature focuses on a joyous moment when Martin O’Neill leapt into the air, in trademark fashion, to celebrate one of the six goals that Celtic put past Rangers on 27 August 2000. The game was O’Neill’s first Glasgow Derby as manager of the Bhoys and what a blistering start he made to life in the fixture as new signing Chris Sutton put the Hoops 1-0 ahead inside the first minute. The eventual four goal margin of victory signified a changing of the guard as O’Neill’s men set about winning the domestic treble.

Since Martin came to Scotland, Celtic have won no fewer than 15 league titles in 21 years. There have been some agonizing last day concessions of the championship too, most notably in 2003 and 2005, when Celtic ought to have got the job. Nevertheless, the manner in which O’Neill turned the tide in Celtic’s favour at the beginning of the new millennium should always be commended.
