Today’s photo of the day dates back to 1989, when two former Celts came to blows during a Scottish Cup quarter final clash between Celtic and Hearts.

Tosh McKinlay was then of Heart of Midlothian, while McCarthy was at the heart of Celtic’s defence. The former put in a crunching tackle on Billy Stark in the centre circle, just moments after Celtic had gone 2-0 up. McCarthy responded angrily and both men were sent for an early bath.

Celtic ultimately went on to win the game 2-1, and eventually lift the cup with a famous victory over Rangers in the final – better known as the Joe Miller final.
