Today’s photo of the day is an image without contemporary connection. Instead, it has been chosen purely for what is depicted in its own right, and that is the iconic Paddy Bonner with the tremendous Celtic support in the background.

The picture was taken during the 1984 Scottish Cup Final against Aberdeen. It is believed that the scene captured was towards the end of normal time, minutes after Paul McStay had scored a late equaliser. Little did the faithful know that Mark McGhee would spoil their afternoon with a winning goal in extra time.

Nevertheless, it’s a cracking photograph to look back on.
