Today’s photo of the day rewinds to August 2009 when Celtic overcame a 1-0 first leg deficit to beat Dinamo Moscow 2-0 in Russia. The contest was a third round Champions League qualifier and victory marked Celtic’s first away win in the competition since 2003. It was also Tony Mowbray’s first competitive win as Celtic manager.

Scott McDonald gave Celtic the lead on the stroke of half time, but the tie remained level until injury time when Samaras chested down Hinkel’s clearance and waltzed past a couple of Dinamo Moscow defenders inside the penalty area, before arrowing an accurate shot low shot past the despairing Gabulov.

The goal marked a fantastic European result, but counted for little as the Hoops met Arsenal in the Play Off round. Arsene Wenger’s side won 5-1 on aggregate to condemn Celtic to the Europa League.
