Today’s photo of the day fast forwards a decade from yesterday’s image. The picture we brought to you last night was from May 1988 and had been taken when Celtic celebrated the league title with victory over Dunfermline during the club’s centenary season. The focus of the image this time is from the league championship of 1998 and Dunfermline provided the opposition once more. It goes without saying that season 1997/98 was pivotal as it stopped Rangers eclipsing the Lisbon Lions record by achieving ten league titles in a row.

The job was eventually complete on the final day, when Celtic beat St Johnstone by two goals to nil at Celtic Park. However, it could have been so much easier had the Bhoys seen the game out at East End Park a week earlier.

Celtic took the lead through Simon Donnelly in the 35th minute… the moment that is the scene of our photo of the day.

The Hoops looked set to complete the job that afternoon until Faulconbridge spoilt the party late on. Donnelly was robbed of hero status as the man who stopped the 10, but things worked out better for the club in the bigger picture as the title was clinched in front of a packed Paradise instead.
