Photo Of The Day: The Whistle Goes And Ten Men Win The League

The 21 May 1979 is a special day in the Celtic calendar. It was that evening when the ten men of Celtic rallied to beat Rangers 4-2, clinching the league title in front of a packed Paradise. For many who missed the European Cup Final in ’67, it was their generation’s Lisbon.

The game needs no explanation. It is well known as one of the most eventful and iconic in our history. The fact that the TV cameramen went on strike, so only grainy old Celtic cine club footage exists of the game, simply adds to the mystique of the occasion.

Today’s photo of the day shows the Celtic dugout erupting in ecstasy at the full time whistle as ten men won the league.

What an incredible night!
