Today’s photo of the day comes in the wake of Scotland’s commendable 0-0 draw with England at Wembley last night. Callum McGregor looked back to his best, excelling for the Tartan Army and more than playing his part in the result. Meanwhile, Jack Grealish was brought on as a second half substitute for England and many felt he should have started the game. In other words, both players are phenomenal midfielders at the highest level for club and country.

It is remarkable to think that McGregor and Grealish played together at Notts County in 2013. The former was on loan from Celtic, whilst the latter had been loaned out from his boyhood heroes Aston Villa. Both players had the talent and ambition to play at a higher level but were given a great education when serving their apprenticeship at Meadow Lane.

The above photo was taken at a time when McGregor was yet to make a senior appearance for Celtic and Grealish played his international football for the Irish U21 team! It is great to see how the pair have progressed and let’s hope that McGregor can maintain his fine form in a Celtic shirt next season, where he will have a big role to play now that Scott Brown has moved on.
