Ange Postecoglou is said to prefer a Scottish move for Osaze Urhoghide. The Dutch youngster joined Celtic last summer but has struggled for game time now the manager wants to get him a loan move to get minutes under his belt, which is attracting interest.
As reported by The Sun, Postecoglou favours keeping Urhoghide in the SPFL Premiership; however, ex-Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson is reportedly keen on bringing the player to Morecambe.
Urhoghide joined as ‘Postecoglou’s first signing’ but has failed to really put down a marker in any of the games that he played during pre-season. Although, he did impress in the win over Real Betis in the Europa League, playing at right-back. He was strong in the tackle, comfortable enough of the ball and showed pace to defend as well as attack. This performance will have proven to Postecoglou that the youngster has a future but with Tony Ralston vying for minutes with Croatian Internationalist Josip Juranovic, it is unlikely that Urhoghide would get the time he needs to develop at Celtic Park.
Time away from the club could be worth its weight in gold for the player, especially as he was so highly-rated arriving from The Owls. The player has only made 21 senior appearances (all coming from Sheffield Wednesday) so he was always to be regarded as one for the future as opposed to an ‘oven ready’ player for Celtic.
A move to Scotland would allow the player to adapt in the top flight, whilst allowing him to help take points from Rangers across the course of the season. Dundee had been suggested but there are better managers to play under, who would likely align with Postecoglou’s vision for the player.
Brentford’s Kris Ajer is an example of a player that has benefited from being loaned out before returning and making an impact on the first team. Ajer spent time with Kilmarnock training as a central defender before returning to Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic and becoming a mainstay.
