ALAN McINALLY, affectionately known as Big Rambo, scored the only goal of the game at Firhill in this Glasgow Cup semi-final in front of a crowd of just 3417 on this day in 1987.

Murdo Macleod flighted a free-kick into the Thistle box and Rambo controlled well before hammering the ball into the net with just 15 minutes remaining.

Celtic lined up as follows: Latchford, Traynor, Rogan, Grant, McGugan, O’Leary Macleod, McInally, McGhee, Burns and Archdeacon with Smith and Baillie on the bench.

Manager Davie Hay missed the game as he was on a scouting mission in England. There was plenty going on around the club at this particulate time.

Liam Brady had just turned down a transfer to Celtic from Ascoli while the club was rumoured to be interested in the Gothenburg striker Stefan Pettersen. Celtic also announced their modern renovation plan for front entrance at Celtic Park.

Sadly the Glasgow Cup Final was a disappointment, losing 1-0 to Rangers in early may 1987.
