Reaction to Lawwell: “What a load of nonsense”, “Recent protest did not help”, “He has been in the job too long”

We asked for some feedback to the short statement from Celtic CEO Peter Lawwell on the official club website this evening.

Here’s what Peter Lawwell had to say: “Like all those with Celtic’s best interests at heart, everyone at the Club is feeling the same hurt, disappointment and frustration following the team’s recent results. We are accustomed to winning and, of course, our objective will always be for that to continue. There is no complacency whatsoever.

“Neil, the players and backroom staff, who have already done so much for the Club, share in all of that. They have never been more determined to succeed. Having enjoyed such sustained, unprecedented success, we now need strength in adversity.

“We know that many Celtic supporters share very honest and real concerns and they are being heard by the Club. Every decision taken, both on and off the park, is with the Club’s best interests at heart. This is not about any individual, but about Celtic Football Club as a collective.

“Together we have faced unique difficulties in the early part of the season. While some of these were beyond our control, of course we recognise we must improve. There is a long way to go and everyone at the Club is ready for the challenge.

“Later this month, Celtic will attempt what no other club in the world has achieved – a quadruple treble in domestic competitions. We can best prepare for that and for our other remaining competitions this season by moving forward together, with the sole aim of achieving continued success for the Club.”

And here’s some supporter feedback, remember the comments are from supporters who responded and are not necessarily shared by The Celtic Star!…

“I’ve had reservations about Peter Lawwell for a long, long time. It sounds trivial but hiring Gerry McCulloch after he ridiculed Celtic fans on Clyde 1 opened my eyes. Res 12 and total silence on referees also frustrates me greatly. The man should be finished at Celtic. They don’t stick up for the club in public and I believe it to be the same in private. I wish Celtic fans could wake up and see this. Hiring Lenny was also poor judgement. Was his thinking that because he was so loved he wouldn’t get the flak thus protecting him? Celtic need a change of direction.” Joseph Beattie.

“Fair words by Peter Lawwell but the writing is probably on the wall for Neil Lennon. The Scottish Cup final might have been the ideal opportunity for him to bow out with hopefully another medal. However we have far more worrying matters at hand and that is hunting down and finding every mutant that arrived at Parkhead on Sunday. A lifetime ban is the minimum required for every single one the horrible little neds.

“If we change managers, which was looking likely until they showed up, not another manager with any sort of regard for his own reputation would take on the job of Celtic manager with the pressure of winning Ten-in-a-Row if this is how they are treated. They have done far more damage than Neil Lennon. This has been coming for years since Peter Lawwell gave into them and gave them their own little section. Getting rid of the Green Brigade MUST be higher on the agenda than getting rid of a club legend like Neil Lennon.” Chris Thornbury

“Is that it. Hope he has his best tuxedo ready when Dave King is presenting him with his lifetime achievement award, for outstanding services to theRangers, or whatever they are called.”
John McGlinchey

“What a load of nonsense from the person who is the main cause of our malaise. The man who gave Neil Lennon the job in the shower. The man who keeps pushing John Kennedy as a future manager with no evidence of why. The man who buys players the manager doesn’t know about or want. The man who is destroying any hope of Ten-in-a-Row. Ask any fan a quadruple treble or Ten-in-a-Row? I know the answer. Lawwell obviously doesn’t.

“He has been in the job too long. It is time for him to go. And sadly for Neil, Kennedy and Strachan too. Enough is enough. I have supported Celtic all my life. As did my Dad and brothers. As do my children. But if this is the answer he and the Board are giving then it ends here. We are being treated like fools.” Eddie Griffin.

“At present everyone is caught between a rock and a hard place might be better to wait until after AGM. The recent protest did not help. My opinion, Lennon to resign after next Rangers game, Kennedy to take charge temporarily until end of season. Next season standing area to be offered to families or returned to seating. My View only. Jerry Woods

“Fair enough. Neil Lennon should be give a final chance. He has been a great servant. The Ten-in-a-Row requires cut-throat decisions now by the club. Celtic need to win the next 15 games and if Neil drops any points at all in those league games give him his P45. Warn him now, off the record. Time to get Griffiths back properly. Drop Olivier Ntcham and only use Broony as a sub or for European games left. Broony and Neil have served the club really well but you can’t let friendship and admiration guide your selection. It doesn’t matter if we are beaten in Europe.

“Neil needs to set an example himself by losing weight and staying off the drink completely for the rest of the season so he can focus his efforts 100 percent. The same alcohol ban should apply to all the players for this season. John Kennedy needs to get more animated and involved instead of being so laissez- faire. Hail Hail!” Pauly

“Absolute garbage. Not a word about events since 2012. No doubt he has already given the Police supporters’ names and addresses.” Patrick Quigley

“Peter Lawwell’s statement – Translation for those who don’t speak B/S: Nothing to see here, please move along! Oh, and remember to buy your Celtic merchandise!” Millsy
