Some good news was announced yesterday when it was revealed that Mark Lawwell had resigned from his post as head of recruitment with chief scout Joe Dudgeon following him out the door.

By resigning they took the choice themselves, but you can’t help think they were pushed in that direction. If so it means that the board are feeling the heat from our displeasure and that Lawwell junior and Dudgeon were the victims in a show of force. Although The cynic in me would suggest that with season ticket renewals just around the corner it’s nothing more than a smokescreen.

But they mustn’t underestimate our intelligence because if they think the removal of two men who were incompetent at their job is going to make us suddenly forget all their previous failings, then they can think again.

Lawwell and Dudgeon should just be the start of a mass exodus. Both while guilty of failing to deliver their brief – bring signings to the club that met the threshold of quality.

The ones at the top should also be shown no mercy and follow the two of them out the door. We need a change of structure and while it’s a positive move getting rid of those in charge of recruitment, we need to further wield the axe. Hopefully Michael Nicholson has recognised this and is making moves in the background to help fulfil his ambition of making Celtic world class in every area.

While binning Lawwell and Dudgeon will buy those in charge some time, it won’t have erased their failings from the minds of the Celtic supporters. It’s a good start, but we demand and expect more changes.
