Red Alert for Scott McKenna, Compliance Officer issues Notice of Compaint

ABERDEEN defender Scott McKenna has this afternoon been issued with a Fast Rack Notice of Complaint by the SFA’s Compliance Officer after his two footed lunge at Celtic star Odsonne Edouard in the match between Celtic and Aberdeen at Celtic Park.

McKenna has been offered a two match ban by the SFA compliance officer after an attempted ‘tackle’ versus Odsonne Edouard which just about everyone thought was reckless and endangering to an opponent. It was debatable whether the offence was inside the penalty area or just outside but referee Bobby Madden did not even award a free kick.

The young French striker later revealed on Instagram that the referee told him that McKenna had played the ball.

So the Aberdeen player’s two footed, thigh high lunge somehow went unpunished by Bobby Madden. However this afternoon the Compliance Officer Clare Whyte has issued a notice of complaint for ‘serious foul play’ after the reckless challenge.

Madden, who has been demoted for this weekend’s fixtures, also tried to prevent Edouard leaving the park towards the touchline at the South Stand after receiving treatment. He did NOT repeat this blocking movement in the second half when an Aberdeen player was down injured in the other penalty area. Funny that.

Celtic won the game 1-0 thanks to Edouard’s replacement Scotty Sinclair – who composed a beautifully improvised back heel finish to break the deadlock and give Celtic the 3 points.

The Fast Track Principal Hearing date for McKenna is Thursday 4 October 2018 and Aberdeen are to appeal.

“It came as a total shock to learn that Scott has been cited for an incident where the referee deemed there was no offence committed and we have subsequently lodged an appeal,” a spokesperson for the Pittodrie club said.
