Refusing money from Celtic supporters then pleading poverty

The Scottish Premiership clubs refusing money from Celtic supporters then pleading poverty at every opportunity…

St Mirren is the latest in a long line of clubs in Scotland to cut the away allocation for Celtic supporters in their ground. I’m led to understand that the Saints have a decent enough support this season and feel they can do this without adversely affecting their budget. Truly?

As my brother Craig Henderson pointed out, not one of his entourage – lifelong home and away stalwarts at Parkhead – managed to snag a brief for this tussle. The lads reckon there will still be empty seats among the black-and-white support whilst transmitting those dull, embarrassing scenes across the footballing globe-shamefully.

We witnessed this annoying trend play out at Easter Road last week as Hibernian were played off the park by Brendan Rodgers’ Champions-elect, (according to Paddy Power). The Hibees in their wisdom draped huge tarps over a huge section of the stand normally reserved for away fans, losing thousands of pounds in revenue.

Their bosom brothers, Hearts have not been slow to demonstrate their abject hatred for Celtic fans over many years by adopting this bizarre strategy in a bid to…what?

Kilmarnock, Motherwell, A.N.Other…They claim they don’t wish to be outnumbered and outsung by a clearly superior brand of support despite the fact that they cannot fill their own stands, so they prevent others doing so in a petulant and childish manner.

First and foremost, they owe their fans a duty of care in tending to their club’s finances – the club cash is generated by the support, not the board of directors. The suits have no right to deny vital funds to the people who prop up their huge salaries week-in, week-out, despite their clear bitterness against Celtic.

Secondly, they have no right to accuse Celtic of Lording it over them with cash riches if they choose to deny bread-and-butter resources to their own; it is hypocritical in the extreme, but I don’t hear their props in the stands complaining.

It seems that they are complicit and are happy to sit on the cusp of poverty whilst bitching and whining about a club with a 60,000 home support, and tens of thousands on the waiting list.

I won’t bring theRangers into this debate since they had their biggest game of the season in a vital, potential £40,000,000 European match at Hampden, but had a minimum of 12,000 bucket seats pleading for a fan to fill it!

Unless there is a drastic and meaningful change in attitude in Scottish football I suggest that these short-sighted lemmings either put up or shut up. They’ve got no idea whilst we got Idah!

  1. If these clubs wish to reduce the away allocation so be it. What Celtic FC and Rangers FC should do is say the allocation should be the normal number. If they do not give this allocation, they will not take up any of the away tickets. Many of the Clubs will go to the wall pretty sharpish.

  2. Hearts and Hibs are complete hypocrites – ban Celtic fans for their behaviour (?!) yet allow each other full stand access to do what? Maybe their fans are all civilised and there is no sectarian or bad behaviour when they meet each other 🤔

  3. Increase the league to twenty teams so then they only get one guaranteed visit from Celtic per season
I’m sure they would be begging the Celtic supporters to come to their ground then

  4. Stop quoting the Daily Record, it is not £40 million. Secondly when will Celtic pay the victims of your bc
