Relegation-bound Southampton are showing an interest in Celtic forward Daizen Maeda. The 25-year-old was impressive for Japan at the World Cup and has returned to Paradise with renewed confidence, playing well and attacking down Celtic’s left-hand side.
According to Football Scotland, Maeda is one of a few options being looked at by Nathan Jones’ Saints as they look to navigate the relegation trap door and retain their Premiership status.
Ange Postecoglou raided his former club for Maeda with the player arriving in the January window last year. Maeda joined Celtic on a loan-to-buy deal, similar to what the club have agreed with Tomori Iwata, who has also arrived from Yokohama F Marinos.
The report states that Maeda is one of the options being looked at and scouts will be present for the League Cup game against Kilmarnock next weekend.
Southampton have enjoyed the Scottish market in recent years with Fraser Forster, Stuart Armstrong, Virgil Van Dijk and Victor Wanyama all joining from Celtic. However, Rangers sold Joe Aribo to the south coast club proving that they are a club that pay an awful lot of interest in what goes on in the Cinch.
