Relief as Liam Kelly set to sign for Rangers after Celtic link

Celtic fans will be relieved at the news that Liam Kelly is close to signing for Rangers. The 28-year-old was linked with the Scottish Champions in what would have been a surprise move, given he is a former Rangers player and supporter.

A report earlier this month indicated that Celtic were considering the Motherwell goalkeeper as a replacement for Benjamin Siegrist, who could leave this summer.

Now, a report from the Scottish Sun suggests that Kelly has agreed a deal to sign for Rangers this summer after his contract at Fir Park expired.

Rangers are keen to get the homegrown status and club trained status for European competitions. Celtic will, meanwhile, require to continue working to identify both a goalkeeper to replace Siegrist and (more importantly) to replace Joe Hart, who will hang up his gloves after Saturday’s Scottish Cup Final.

Kelly could be included in the Scotland National Team’s 26-man squad for Euro 2024 that will be announced on Wednesday morning. It would be potentially surprising for Kelly to be included given he was statistically the worst performing goalkeeper in the Premiership.
