Celtic will sign Tomoki Iwata on a loan with an option to buy deal, according to reports on social media this evening.

Ange Postecoglou teased that there would be a third signing shortly and it has emerged that the versatile defender may be the next Japanese player to swap the J League for Paradise. It is a coup given he was named Player of the Season in the league last term.

The report states that Celtic will pay £1m to bring the player on loan until the end of the season and the club retain an option to buy. This is similar to the deal that saw Daizen Maeda join the club last summer. Iwata can play defensive midfield, centre back and right back and comes with a history of success with Ange.

Signings from the J League have been great successes for the football club with Maeda, Hatate and Kyogo all impressing. Yosuke Ideguchi has struggled to settle and you would expect he may make the move back to the J League.

Celtic have already signed Yuki Kobayashi and Alistair Johnston before the January window even opened. Now it looks as if the utility player will join the Scottish Champions shortly.

You would expect that the manager will continue hunting in the market as he looks to strengthen his team.
