Report: Celtic considering UCL winning full-back, worked with Brendan Rodgers before

Celtic are being linked with the signing of Champions League-winning full-back Ryan Bertrand. The 34-year-old is available as a free agent after leaving Leicester City at the end of last season. The Scottish Champions are said to be considering the former England Internationalist as they attempt to strengthen in the final stages of the transfer window.

The Daily Record are reporting that Bertrand has been offered to Celtic as he looks to secure a new club ahead of the new season. Bertrand worked with Brendan Rodgers in Chelsea’s Academy before linking up again with The Foxes.

Bertrand has quite an extensive CV, but his most successful times as a player have come with Southampton and Chelsea. Whilst playing for The Blues, Bertrand was involved as they defeated Bayern Munich on penalties at the Allianz Arena to win their first European title.

Despite his age, Bertrand would be an experienced and quality pro who could offer an alternative to Greg Taylor with Alexandro Bernabei on the periphery of the squad. However, his two years in Leicester were plagued by injuries and you have to think that there are better alternatives out there.

Celtic have already signed Nat Phillips from Liverpool and Luis Palma from Aris FC. Rodgers has been keen to add quality and it is believed that they are looking to complete three more transfers with Benfica’s Paulo Bernardo expected to arrive tomorrow.
