Celtic have rejected an embarrassingly low offer from Southampton for star midfielder Matt O’Riley. The 23-year-old has been a star since joining from MK Dons, which has attracted Premier League interest as well as suitors from La Liga and Serie A.

As reported by Sun Sport, Celtic have dismissed the derisory bid for the Danish Internationalist.

The bid was for just £14m with add-ons based on performance. However, Celtic want £30m for the midfielder.

O’Riley showed his class in the 4-3 win over Manchester City, linking up with Nicolas Kühn on Celtic’s right hand side to help defeat Pep Guardiola’s team.

The Dane was Celtic’s standout performer as Brendan’s side won another Premiership title as well as taking the Scottish Cup back to Paradise. The form was such that the Celtic support were surprised that O’Riley was pipped to the Scottish PFA award by Lawrence Shankland.

Since arriving from MK Dons in January 2022, O’Riley scored 8 goals and assisted 16 times in 72 appearances under Ange Postecoglou. The Australian departed for Spurs bringing Brendan Rodgers back to Paradise, which took O’Riley’s performances to another level – scoring 19 goals and assisting 18 times in 49 appearances.
