Report: Celtic ‘make £7.6m offer’ for Croatian Internationalist

Celtic have reportedly made an informal offer for Dominik Livakovic. The Croatian Internationalist is currently in Germany with the National Team after an impressive first season at Fenerbahce, where they finished second.

According to Football Insider, Celtic are looking at Livakovic as they look to find a replacement for Joe Hart. The report, which cites sources, claims that Celtic have bid £7.6m for the player.

Perhaps more tellingly, the report states that the clubs have engaged in extensive discussions about a deal and the formal offer could be forthcoming. Celtic have cast a wide search for a new goalkeeper with the quality to replace Hart and Livakovic has been repeatedly linked for some time.

Football Insider can be a bit hit or miss with transfer stories and it could be some conjecture after reports in Turkey linked Celtic with a return for the 29 year old.

The ex-Zagreb skipper left Croatia last season for Turkey but might be persuaded by a switch to Scotland. Although, he would have Champions League football available as well as the chance to compete for trophies.

Livakovic could be available should new boss Jose Mourinho deem that he requires another shot stopper. However, it is likely that the legendary manager will want to properly assess his team in pre-season before sanctioning any departures.

  1. I can understand that attracting players last summer, wouldn’t have been an easy task, within a euros tournament finals season?
Still seems as though many international managers hold the regard of the SPFL standards as to low for there liking imo?
Even though this keeper was strongly linked to ourselves a year ago, the possibility wasn’t a realistic one, when the no1 keeper position for ourselves, wasn’t really up for grabs?
Of course that isn’t the case this season, which could mean a bigger pool of potential players available to ourselves imo?
We are getting to a stage where we are now competing in far more higher profile matches, next season, which will increase even further by getting improved results, especially at CL level imo?
So as this rumour comes from one of the worst available sites, it’s very hard to take seriously?
Yet possibly can’t be totally dismissed either, even if I would class it as a total longshot at present imo?
Keepers aren’t really in the market for changing clubs so quickly, especially when they have the no1 Jersey intact?
Yet mourinho does tend to make changes within a team, starting from the defensive set up?
So has mourinho already got another keeper in mind?
Fail to see how anyone could be making such an assumption already?

We know very well that Celtic FC WILL NOT pay more than 5 mill for any player ,let alone an older 29 yr old keeper. Keep our Swiss keeper and let the guy play to his strengths, he is good and has the patience of a saint. He has been dealt with very badly up till now. Foreign does not mean better. Let him play. He is a proven keeper in Scotland and very well respected in that position.
