CELTIC have struggled at the back this season and one reason for that is Fraser Forster was unable to seal a Celtic Park return over the summer. The English goalie opted to return to Southampton whilst Neil Lennon brought in Vasilis Barkas from AEK Athens.

The £4.5m import has since been displaced by Scott Bain between the sticks and many are pining after another move for Forster. Football Insider are reporting that a move for Forster in January is ‘unlikely’.

Forster is second choice behind Alex McCarthy at Southampton and is yet to play any football this season but the £90k-a-week contract that he is on will surely keep him company. Celtic have, meanwhile, struggled without the commanding presence of Forster.

Saints are likely to sanction a move for Forster as they currently have Angus Gunn on loan with Stoke City and wouldn’t risk leaving themselves short on options. Celtic had hoped to entice him back but no deal was agreed meaning Lennon had to consider other options but what will have annoyed the club is that Forster’s indecision lead to Craig Gordon’s departure as no deal was agreed with the Scottish keeper either.
