ODSONNE EDOUARD has been one of Celtic’s best players in the last two seasons since sealing a permanent move from PSG in 2018. The Frenchman’s sparkling form has resulted in a number of clubs being linked with a potential move for the attacker. However, Celtic are preparing to begin their charge for ten-in-a-row and do not want to lose their talisman.
Football Insider claims that the Scottish Champions are intent on keeping their star striker and in order to do so, they believe that the £40m price tag will fend off potential suitors. The 22-year-old has two years remaining on his current deal with Neil Lennon’s side and whilst he is tipped to go to the very top, the club are keen to re-sign him on improved terms.
The Frenchman was in incredible form last season, scoring 28 goals and notching 12 assists in 45 appearances in all competitions as Celtic steamed towards matching Jock Stein’s 1974 record. Moussa Dembele left Celtic for £20m, Kieran Tierney for £25m, Virgil Van Dijk for £12m and Fraser Forster for £10m but Peter Lawwell reportedly believes that the striker is higher rated than the recent exports from Paradise.
Celtic need to retain Edouard, Ajer and re-sign Fraser Forster in order to be in the best possible shape ahead of the new season. Lennon’s team kick off the new season at home to Hamilton Accies, which will almost certainly be behind closed doors.
