Celtic striker Albian Ajeti is a target for Swiss side FC Basel. The 26-year-old has a year remaining on his deal with the Scottish Champions but it appears that his time in Glasgow is expected to come to an end with Celtic unlikely to recoup any of the £4.5m outlay paid to West Ham in 2020.
According to The Herald, Basel want to bring Ajeti back to the club where he made his breakthrough. A stumbling block to this move is the current wages that Ajeti is on at Celtic, Basel would be unable to match the current wages but surely a compromise could be reached between all parties.
With one year remaining, Ajeti is said to be happy to run down his contract rather than agreeing an early settlement with Celtic. Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers will likely want to redistribute the wages by clearing Ajeti out. The decision by the Irishman not to include the forward in pre-season camps over in Portugal and Japan.
Ajeti signed from David Moyes’ West Ham United in the summer of 2020 as Celtic favoured the Swiss striker over Ivan Toney. Over two seasons, Ajeti has made 48 appearances and found the net on just 9 occasions. With Kyogo and Giorgos Giakoumakis showing their best form in the 2021/22 season, Ajeti slipped out of the picture after Christmas due to an injury. A loan with the option to buy deal was struck in the summer of 2022 with Sturm Graz. The attacker failed to impress and returned to Celtic but was not involved with the pre-season plans under Rodgers.
If he wants to run down his contract then let him do so rather than let him walk away with his pockets full of our money.
If he doesn’t want to compromise then neither should we.
Simply, let him stay the full year and make his life hell for the remainder of his stay.
We ought to make a stand against parasites like this.
I understand he is contractually due the money……LET HIS STAY AND EARN IT !!!
