We’re starting to see that a lot of managers wait until the end of a season to take on a new role, especially at the bigger clubs.
In a way it makes sense because the new boss will want a transfer window to sort out the squad and to have plenty of time to work with them in training, so it will be interesting to see what Celtic do with Neil Lennon.
There’s no doubt that this season has been a disaster with lacklustre exits in Europe and the Betfred Cup, while Celtic also came close to losing the Scottish Cup final to a Championship side.
The performance in the league has been the bigger disappointment after they surrendered the title far too easily, so questions will be asked about his future.
It’s very possible that Lennon will be moved on in the summer if the right target becomes available, and there’s been a bit of talk about Frank Lampard.

Those links may come on the back of seeing that Steven Gerrard has brought some success in his role so it’s natural to think that his old England teammate might be able to do the same, but he has his pros and cons.
Lampard’s best work at Chelsea came in his first year when he was able to work with the young players and they played some nice stuff, but there was also minimal expectations.
He really struggled this season when he was given some top quality players and immediate success was demanded, but he can argue that he didn’t want a lot of those signings and it upset the balance of the squad.
A report from Give Me Sport has also looked at these links with Lampard and Celtic and it sounds like he wouldn’t want to take a new job until the summer.
It’s also believed that he would be open to taking the Celtic job, but he would prefer a Premier League club if possible so that does raise some red flags.
The last thing Celtic need is another manager to come in and look to improve their stock before taking the first job that comes up in England, but at least he could be a legitimate target if a new manager is needed.
He should also fit the criteria of a big name to help appease some of the supporters and it’s also likely that his contacts down south could unearth some brilliant signings, so he’s absolutely a name to watch if the job opens up.
