Report: Dundee hierarchy expecting Celtic bid for star midfielder

Dundee are reportedly expecting a formal approach from Celtic over the signing of Luke McCowan. The 26-year-old has impressed under Tony Docherty, catching the eye of potential suitors and Brendan Rodgers is said to be an admirer.

As reported by Sun Sport, the Dens Park side anticipate that Celtic will join Hibs in the hunt to sign the Scottish midfielder.

Hibs had a £750k bid dismissed by Dundee as they want their value met, which is said to be around £1m. Celtic could benefit by signing McCowan as he would qualify has domestically trained as well as being Scottish – which they would need to have for their Champions League exploits.

It remains to be seen, however, whether Celtic would want to bring the player into the club. It may be a case that he has impressed with the Dee but would struggle for game time at Celtic, becoming a squad player.

Arne Engels is reportedly a summer target for the Champions if Matt O’Riley departs in a record move. The Dane has been heavily linked with Atalanta, who are expected to return with a bid of upwards of £25m.

Should a deal be done, Celtic would be adding a tidy, technical player that possesses a number of strong defensive traits. It is no surprise a number of clubs are interested in bringing the player in, especially after impressing last season.

Celtic have the added benefit of being able to offer players on loan to the Dees, should they deem that as being the preferred route to doing a deal.
