Report: Liverpool preparing for Kelleher departure as Celtic loan-to-buy floated

Liverpool are reportedly preparing for Caoimhin Kelleher’s departure. The Irish Internationalist has been linked with a move to Celtic in recent weeks and a sensational report has claimed that Jurgen Klopp is expecting the 25-year-old to move on.

As reported by The Sun, Kelleher is a target for the Scottish Champions as Brendan Rodgers in the summer as Liverpool’s scouts look at bringing in a replacement for Kelleher to work as understudy to Allison Becker.

The report states that Liverpool currently have an eight-figure price tag against Kelleher, whose brother played in Celtic’s Academy. The big ‘keeper has 12 appearances for Liverpool this season but having fallen down the pecking order for the national team, it is expected that he will look to get a move for more first team football.

Celtic are reportedly an option for a loan-to-buy deal that would see a temporary switch to Paradise in the summer and then an option to buy implemented, which is often agreed in advance by parties. There are, however, other teams vying for his signature as the Reds stopper eyes regular game time.

Joe Hart, Celtic’s No.1, has six months remaining on his deal with the Englishman expected to sit down with Brendan towards the end of the season to discuss the future. It is a potentially sticky position for Celtic, similar to the summer of 2020, where Craig Gordon was allowed to leave only for Fraser Forster to blank a move meaning Vasilis Barkas was signed – lest we forget.

It will be an interesting one to see play out; although, it appears that Hart will likely move on to be replaced by Kelleher.
