Celtic are keen on making more additions to their squad in the final weeks of the window. Adam Idah’s return to Paradise was confirmed last night making him the fourth arrival of the summer, joining Paulo Bernardo, Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo.
As reported by Sun Sport, Celtic are keen on bringing a left-back, a striker and a centre back into the club in the remaining weeks of the transfer window.
The manager has spoken about having three strikers – two first picks and one younger player that can supplement the senior duo. With Kyogo and Idah qualifying as the first choice attackers, it would make sense if a young player is added in the coming weeks.
Celtic have been hunting a left back for some time to compete with Greg Taylor. The Scotland Internationalist has been excellent for the club in that inverted role but there is no depth in the position should he become injured. Owen Beck from Liverpool is a strong possibility with the clubs yet to agree on a transfer fee, with the Premier League side looking for £3m. Beck was first linked with Celtic via an article on The Celtic Star last September ahead of Dundee’s visit to Celtic Park.
Finding a partner for Cameron Carter-Vickers has gone on for some time with Liam Scales coming out as the most suitable candidate last year. The Irishman is steady but still appears hesitant on the ball, meaning that Rodgers will likely want a player that is more comfortable on the ball, like CCV.
There is a significant moving part, namely whether Matt O’Riley is still a Celtic player by the end of the window. The Danish midfielder has been the subject of intense interest from Atalanta but the Serie A side are yet to meet Celtic’s valuation of the player.
Celtic are reportedly keen on Arne Engels, who plays with Augsburg in Germany. The Belgian is predominantly a centre midfielder but can also play at right back and on the right wing. The 20-year-old is said to be available for transfer for £10m and Brendan Rodgers is keen on the player if O’Riley departs.
Moreover, the report also claims that Dundee are expecting a bid from Celtic for their star midfielder Luke McCowan. Celtic have been said to admire the player but it remains to be seen whether a formal approach would be made for the player who has been the subject of bids from Hibs, the most recent arriving this morning with the Easter Road club now offering £750,000.
