Reported Celtic target available for free after Premier League release

Scott McKenna is available for free this summer after being released by Nottingham Forest. The Scotland Internationalist has been regularly linked with a move to Celtic, most recently in January. However, the central defender is available under freedom of contract, which could appeal to Brendan Rodgers.

After the Premier League side confirmed their retained list for next season, it was confirmed that their former skipper would leave.

The 27-year old spent the second half of last season on loan at Copenhagen after a dispute with the club. The eye watering wages of McKenna made any Celtic move unlikely but now, with that no longer an issue, Rodgers may revive the long running interest.

Celtic will be looking to strengthen at centre back this summer and add competition for Liam Scales, who has become the first pick alongside stalwart Cameron Carter-Vickers. There is the added benefit of having a home-grown, Scottish Internationalist in the ranks for the UEFA Champions League quotas.

McKenna is a left-footed CB, who has a bit of pace for a player of his stature. The experience of playing in the Premier League and in the UCL with Copenhagen would benefit him in moving to Celtic.
