CELTIC are chasing the highly rated Dutch youngster, Mohamed Sankoh from Stoke City. The 16-year-old is out of contract this summer and Celtic are amongst a number of teams keeping tabs on the player.
Football Insider are reporting that Celtic are keen on signing the player as the scouting scheme of taking highly rated youngsters to the Scottish Champions would allow for exposure to the first team.
Should the youngster sign with Celtic, a minimal compensation fee would be in order due to a cross-border transfer fee. The striker, who turns 17 in October, would be the latest highly rated youngster to opt for a move to Celtic over English teams.
Last season Celtic signed Jeremie Frimpong and Lee O’Connor from Manchester’s big two, with Frimpong breaking through into the first time and performing admirably in his first season. The club also signed Luca Connell and Jonathan Afolabi from English sides, exploiting the rule.
Going further back, Moussa Dembele joined from Fulham for just £500k using the cross border rule. It would appear that in recent seasons Celtic’s talent scouting has changed to focus on highly youngsters coming out of English academies but are unwilling to sign new contracts.
Sankoh started his career at Sparta Rotterdam before moving to Stoke City in September 2018. The 16-year-old is said to be a target for Chelsea and Atletico Madrid.
