Celtic have called off Danny Simpson’s trial after cooling their interest with the signing of Hatem Abd Elhamed.
The 32-year-old was a Premier League winner in 2016 with Leicester and was a free-agent following his release.
According to the Sun, who first told us of the surprise move last week, Simpson was due to begin a trial at Lennoxtown today. However, due to the signing of Israeli International Hatem Abd Elhamed from Hapoel Be’er Sheva, which is awaiting completion, Simpson’s trial has been cancelled.
Whether it was the player or the club remains unclear, but the response that the potential move got was mixed to say the least. Simpson was convicted in 2015 of assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

To me, Danny Simpson’s conviction of violent domestic abuse is all I need for not wanting him at Celtic.
No ifs, no buts.
