Reports: SFA to back temporary rule change should season resume

WITH no football on the horizon, that isn’t stopping the footballing authorities from planning ahead and fleshing out ways to improve games. The Scottish Sun reported last night that the SFA are set to support a new rule being imposed in football matches should matches return.

The International Football Association Board are proposing to FIFA an increase to the amount of substitutes available to teams from three to five ahead of a proposed return to football behind closed doors.

SFA Chief Ian Maxwell will throw his weight behind the proposal, addressing concerns of player welfare should games return across Europe in the coming months.

There are concerns that players will be burnt out should they return to matches without a proper pre-season regime meaning that players were more likely to be injured.

Proposals in England suggest that a possible return to football would be crammed into a short period of time, allowing players a break before the new season would begin.

Scottish Football would adopt the rule for the remainder of the season should matches be able to be resumed. However, that seems increasingly unlikely due to the implications caused coronavirus.
