Portuguese journalist and transfer guru, Pedro Almeida has given an update to the deal involving Jota and Celtic. Almeida is regarded as being one of the most respected Portuguese football insider specialising in transfers.
Benfica and Celtic reached an agreement in the summer transfer window of a loan deal with an option to buy for €7.5 million. It has to be said that the talented winger has looked the part since arriving on the steps of Parkhead.
Jota has been in exceptional form of late, with his most recent exploits including the League Cup Semi-final last night at Hampden Park and his performances in Europe especially. The player also scored a vital goal up at Pittodrie in October which kept us in the hunt for this SPFL title. His quick feet and dazzling array of skills were on show last night, with a particularly cheeky rabona cross being the highlight of the reel.
There is no denying Celtic have a major talent on their hands in Felipe Jota. His performances haven’t gone without notice one would imagine though. The fee that had been pre-determined is a considerable amount for a team in Scotland to pay. However, it is not excessive when you look at the empirical evidence in regards to Jota and his overall impact on this Celtic side.
Almeida has revealed through the medium of Twitter that Celtic will look to go ahead and trigger the clause on Jota, making him a permanent member of Celtic Football Club. This would be a coup for Celtic if the information relayed by the journalist is correct. Judging by the initial involvement of Jota on Ange’s rebuild, the transfer fee in question seems like a snip. There will be plenty of potential for resale value also, which could tempt the Celtic hierarchy into giving the significant outlay to begin with.
We can only hope Celtic are looking into making Jota a Hoops player for the foreseeable future.
