CELTIC have paid tribute to Argentinian football legend Diego Maradona after the legendary attacker died today at the age of 60. The Scottish Champions tweeted their condolences along with two pictures of Maradona at Celtic Park back in 2008.
Argentina trained at Celtic Park ahead of their friendly game versus Scotland in November 2008, it would be his first in charge of Argentina and Maxi Rodriquez gave his side a 1-0 win.
Whilst the UK media may show images of the Hand of God moment, when Maradona rose to defeat England in the Quarter Final of the World Cup in 1986, Maradona was so much more than that. He was one of two winners of the FIFA Players of the Twentieth Century, earning various awards for his personal performances.
Not only was he a superb player, Maradona was very charitable helping donate to various causes to help the most impoverished children in his hometown and adopted home in Napoli.
The then Argentina manager lost his earring on the Celtic Park surface and a member of the club’s Academy found it after scouring the Paradise turf, prompting a cuddle from the Napoli legend.
Rest in Peace, Diego. One of the best in world football and a true footballing icon.
