Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has reacted to the news that recruitment duo Mark Lawwell and Joe Dudgeon have resigned from their roles within the club. The Scottish Champions have confirmed that the pair will leave and been placed on a period of gardening leave.

Speaking to the club website, Rodgers said that both members of the recruitment had worked towards bringing success to Celtic.

“As part of the Club’s recruitment team, Mark and Joe have worked tirelessly to bring success to Celtic, and I would like to wish them both the very best for the future.”

Celtic Chief Executive, Michael Nicholson, added: “Everyone at Celtic thanks Mark and Joe for their contribution and dedication to the club, and we wish them both every success moving forward.”

Lawwell’s patchy record in recruitment terms led to criticism from the supporters and it is interesting to see that the club have said that he was an acquisition by Ange Postecoglou rather than the obvious connection.

The update regarding Lawwell Jnr poses an exciting opportunity for the club to modernise the recruitment at the club and bring in a modern DoF/Sporting Director. With Lawwell moving on, the club can bring in someone that can work within the club to bring the best and brightest talent to the football club to deliver success on and off the pitch.
