LEICESTER CITY have signed former Celtic target Timothy Castagne for £21.5m. Celtic had been linked with the Belgian right back but no deal transpired in the January transfer window back in 2019 as Mikel Lustig appeared to be on borrowed time with the club.
Brendan Rodgers was an admirer of Castagne and now he has got his man, arriving for a sizeable fee that Celtic would never have been able to payout. It would appear that Lee Congerton has the same list for his time at Celtic that he uses in the Premier League.
Castagne was the subject of a number of enquiries by the Scottish Champions and they were expected to return to the table in the summer but a few weeks later, Rodgers had jumped ship heading to Leicester. Rodgers signed a right back in the shape of Jeremy Toljan but his stint at Celtic was a massive disappointment.
Since missing out on Castagne, Celtic have signed two very competent defensive options for the right back berth. Jeremie Frimpong and Hatem Abd Elhamed offer a mixture between conservative defence and full-on attack. Rodgers may wish to return for previous favourites Odsonne Edouard and Callum McGregor; however, he should be told in no uncertain terms that the players are not for sale.
